By the time you read this, I will be on my way to New Orleans for a couple of days out of town. Ironically, this post was inspired in part by the French Quarter of New Orleans – or at least some of the employees of that area. There are some businesses in that area that have managed to survive the severe drought of tourists in the still-recovering post Katrina area, in fact some of them are thriving even on the slowest nights on and around Bourbon Street.
Believe it or not, they can teach you a thing or two about the way you operate your online business.
There is at least one “girlie bar†in the French Quarter for every two otherwise mainstream businesses. Some of these bars have burly door men shouting and handing out fliers to the passersby while others have scantily clad women in the doorways doing the wooing. Guess which one does more business?
When you are the one promoting your products or services, your potential clients have the opportunity to get to know you better, at least that is how they feel. The process of article submission (submitting articles to directories on topics about which you are focused) is the same thing. Instead of generically promoting your business through all the normal avenues you can promote your online business by showing your experience and thus, growing your business.
When writing these articles you have the opportunity to write your own byline and that is where the money gets made. After you have crafted a few solid and informative articles on your area of expertise and submitted them, readers will begin to follow what you write (in much the same way as they would follow a blog). They will begin to recognize your name, visit your ecommerce web site and even refer their friends to you.
